Welcome to Hilda class

Support staff: Mrs Finn

Look on our class page to keep up to date with our journey through Year 1!

Reading

Children have the opportunity to read everyday at school, individually or with an adult. However it is still important that reading is encouraged at home. Reading is a key area where adults can support their child at home. Planners are the main method of communication between home and school. Children have the opportunity to change their reading books everyday. Therefore it is important if you could please sign your child's planner when they have read to ensure reading books are changed as regularly as possible.

Homework

Homework and spellings are given out each Wednesday and due in the following Monday. It is important you spend time practicing with your child their phonics sounds and word cards, all in preparation for the Phonics Screening Check in June.

PE

Our PE days are Monday and Friday afternoon. However, it is requested that children bring their PE kit every Monday and take it home every Friday in case there is a need to change PE slots. PE kits must consist of a white t-shirt, blue or black shorts and pumps or trainers.

Our Topics for this year are as follows:

Memory Box

Bright Lights, Big City

Moon Zoom!

Enchanted Woodland

Paws, Claws and Whiskers

Splendid Skies

Memory Box

Our topic for the first half term is a history based topic. We will discuss our memories and look at how things have changed over time. We will find out about the days before we were born and learn all about the past. We will make a memory box, which we can keep special things in. Memories are special...let's make some more!
