Welcome to Year 5
Teacher: Miss Teasdale
Support staff: Mrs Daniels
Here you can keep up to date with what we are up to and which topics we are studying.
Year 5 pupils have now finished their swimming lessons therefore pupils will now have two PE lessons each week. PE kits (white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps/trainers) are expected to be brought into school on Monday and taken home on Friday. Pupils should also bring clothes suitable for outdoor PE as we will be having at least one outdoor PE lesson each week.
If your child has an inhaler they will need to ensure they bring it for PE days, and any other excursions or they will not be able to take part.
Please ensure that all clothing has your child's name on it, as a simple way to easily avoid unwanted disruption and loss.
Homework is given out on a Wednesday and should be completed by the following Monday.
Times tables and Spellings will also be given out on a Wednesday and will be tested on the following Wednesday.
Reading books and planners are sent home every night and children have the opportunity to change their book every day, when they are finished reading them. Please encourage your child to read and record any reading or on-line home learning in their planner with your signature, so they can be rewarded with house points, raffle tickets and golden time.
All children in year 5 are learning to play the Ukulele. Children have been learning since September and have so far really enjoyed their lessons. We have learnt a number of songs, below is a video of the children playing and singing Mango Walk.
If pupils have other music lessons they should remember to look after instruments and make sure they are in school on the day of their lesson.
On Thursday 30th March year 5 took part in a Lent retreat day with the In Reality team. They had a fantastic day exploring Lent and the Stations of the Cross and ending in a whole school liturgy led by year 5. Below is the video that we made, it show the children acting out the stations of the Cross.
This half term out topic is called Scream Machines. It is a Science based topic where we will be focusing on forces and their effect. The children have also written some wonderful shape poems about being on a roller coaster.
Below is the presentation from the year 5 parents evening.
Miss Sharp will be in the playground each morning and every afternoon (except Thursday afternoon) if you have any questions or queries.
