This half term in Year 1 we have absolutely loved exploring History through our immersive topic 'Dinosaurs!'

What did dinosaurs eat?

We began our learning journey by exploring the diet of various dinosaurs. We carried out research to discover which dinosaurs were either carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and what type of foods that each type may eat.

To extend our knowledge of the diets of carnivores, herbivores and omnivore dinosaurs, we linked our History curriculum with science and became dinosaur waste detectives! We dissected the dinosaur waste found in our playground and examined the food found inside. This helped to let us discover which food group the dinosaur would have belonged to! We had so much fun and recorded our findings too.

Check out our findings!

Sharp or blunt teeth?

We then analysed very closely various sets of dinosaur teeth fossils. We researched why carnivores, herbivores or omnivores need certain features in their teeth to eat the food in their diet. We then sculptured our very own set of dinosaur teeth thinking carefully about the intended shape.

Check out our fabulous models!

Followed by beautiful sketches of the dinosaur jaws.

During Black History Month we particularly focused on the famous story of a lady called Rosa Parks. We shared a story about Rosa which celebrated her courageous story. We then created our own bus craft in remembrance and wrote a sentence using wonderful adjectives to describe Rosa.
