Phonics teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly, and compose their ideas step-by-step. In Nursery, children are taught to say the sounds of letters with the help of rhymes, to blend the sounds into words and read simple ‘blending books’. This gives them a flying start before going into the Reception class!
At St Francis Xavier, we follow the Read Write Ink (RWI) scheme when teaching phonics. Ruth Miskin is the lady who created this scheme and is offering phonics lessons on her youtube page to support parents at home. The lessons will be available throughout the week for both you and your child to access. I have attached the link below to Ruth's youtube channel. In Nursery we are currently learning set one sounds so these are the videos that would be super beneficial for you to focus upon!
