Ash Wednesday Liturgy

Year 1 received the sign of the cross with Ash from our whole school Ash Wednesday liturgy. We then made our own Lenten promises.

We immersed ourselves in the book 'We're going on a Bear Hunt". We read the book and then went outside and went on our own bear hunt through the grass, the mud, the river, the snow and found the bear. Finally, we acted out the book with Michael Rosen who is the author.

Road Safety Talk

Today we had a road safety talk. We followed the story of Mittons the cat and how they had to learn the green cross code. We discussed how to cross a road safely including on zebra crossings and with lolly pop ladies. Then, we discussed if we are on bikes or scooters we need to wear hi vis jackets and helmets to keep safe. Finally, we learnt that when crossing a road we need to stop, look and listen.

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology, Year One have been challenged to create a windmill for a mouse. After watching some inspiring videos they started by creating an aesthetically pleasing outer wall for their windmills. They discussed what would attract a mouse to their design over the others. The children then challenged themselves further by cutting out their nets.
